No. 4 Tennessee edges Ole Miss softball 4-3 in series finale
Knoxville, Tenn. — Ole Miss softball lost 4-3 to No. 4 Tennessee in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
Freshman Madi George highlighted the game with a three-run homer that helped the Rebels (23-15, 2-10 SEC) tie the score in the sixth inning. The Lady Volunteers (30-5, 7-5 SEC) ultimately secured the win with a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Both teams traded scoreless frames through the first two innings before Tennessee scored three runs in the third on a bases-clearing double. Ole Miss threatened in the fourth with singles from Mackenzie Pickens and George but was unable to capitalize. A key double play by Tennessee’s Kyra Aycock kept the Rebels off the board.
In the sixth, Ole Miss responded. Pickens drew a walk, and Llamas hit a double off the wall. George then launched her 10th home run of the season to center field, tying the game at 3-3. Aycock kept the game tied with a strikeout and groundouts to end the inning.
However, Tennessee loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Vols scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk, ending the game. Ole Miss’s Emilee Boyer and Tennessee’s Erin Nuwer exchanged scoreless innings early on, but Tennessee’s offense broke through in the third.
The Rebels are scheduled to play Memphis on Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via ESPN Plus. Ole Miss will continue its road trip with upcoming games against Texas A&M and LSU later this month.
