No. 4 Oklahoma beats Ole Miss 14-2 in Sunday softball game

OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss softball team was overwhelmed early and fell 14-2 to No. 4 Oklahoma on Sunday evening at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.

The Rebels (20-13, 0-8 SEC) allowed four runs in the first inning and could not mount a comeback against the Sooners (31-2, 5-0 SEC). Oklahoma scored four runs in the first and two in the second inning to set the tone for the game.

Cassie Reasner sparked a small rally with a solo home run in the second inning, cutting the deficit to 6-1. Despite this, Oklahoma responded with a two-run homer in the third inning, extending its lead to 8-1. The Sooners continued to pour it on in the fourth inning, taking a 14-1 lead.

The Rebels attempted a comeback in the bottom of the fourth. Madi George doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. Rachel Connors then doubled, and Taylor Malvin walked, loading the bases. Mackenzie Pickens drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, making it 14-2. Oklahoma closed out the game in the fifth inning as Lilly Whitten struck out the side in relief.

The two teams are scheduled to face off again Monday at 6 p.m. CT in the final game of the series, which will be televised on the SEC Network.
