No. 34 Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 7 LSU, 4-3

The Ole Miss men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 7 LSU on Sunday at the LSU Tennis Complex. The Rebels, ranked 34th nationally, fell behind early after LSU secured the doubles point.

LSU extended its lead by winning two singles matches quickly, putting Ole Miss in a 3-0 hole. Noah Schlagenhauf gave the Rebels their first point with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Enzo Kohlmann. Pietro Pampanin then defeated No. 102 Andrej Loncarevic in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Vlado Jankanj edged Alessio Vasquez in three sets, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.

The match was decided on court six, where Benjamin Martin faced Sasa Markovic. Markovic led 5-2 in the third set after trading the first two sets. Markovic ultimately won the set and clinched the match for LSU, 7-5 in the third.

Ole Miss (13-3, 1-3 SEC) will return home to face No. 37 Vanderbilt on March 8 at 1 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center.

In doubles, LSU’s Andrej Loncarevic and Sasa Markovic defeated Ole Miss’s Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn, 6-4. The Rebels also lost doubles matches to Erik Arutiunian and Matias Ponce De Leon, 7-5, and M. Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin, 6-2.
