No. 25 Ole Miss Baseball suffers first loss of season in extra innings against Baylor
HOUSTON, Texas — No. 25 Ole Miss Baseball (9-1) lost its first game of the season Friday night, falling 6-5 in 10 innings to Baylor at the BRUCE BOLT College Classic.
Hunter Elliott pitched five strong innings, striking out a career-high 11 batters, allowing just two hits and one earned run in the first inning. He struck out eight of the last 10 batters he faced. Despite his effort, Baylor scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening frame.
Tristan Bissetta powered the Rebels’ offense with two home runs, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. His first homer, a two-run shot in the fifth, gave Ole Miss a 3-1 lead. Bissetta’s second home run, a solo shot in the eighth, tied the game at 4-4.
Ole Miss led 5-4 heading into the ninth, but Baylor tied the game with a three-RBI home run by Hunter Snow. The game remained tied through regulation and into extra innings, where Baylor scored an unearned run in the 10th using the ghost runner rule to secure the victory.
The Rebels’ next game is Saturday morning against Ohio State at 11:05 a.m., with the team aiming to rebound from its first loss of the season, according to team sources.
