No. 21 Choctaws fall in series finale against North Georgia
DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Mississippi College’s baseball team, ranked 21st nationally, was shut out 10-0 by North Georgia in the final game of a weekend series Sunday. The Choctaws fell to 3-4 overall after managing just three hits in the game.
The Nighthawks, ranked 29th, improved to 6-1 with the win, thanks in part to two home runs and eight RBIs. Tyler Sanderson, Johnny Elbourne and JT Thigpen each recorded a hit for MC, with Thigpen and Elbourne registering their first hits of the season.
North Georgia took control early, scoring four runs in the fourth inning. The sequence included a solo homer and an error that led to unearned runs. MC faced further challenges when two more unearned runs scored after a miscue, widening the lead.
Mississippi College had scoring chances early but failed to capitalize. In the first inning, a walk and subsequent free bases loaded the bases, but the rally ended with a strikeout. In the fourth, Alex Johnson and Thigpen reached scoring position but did not score. The team also threatened in the sixth with a single by Sanderson and a walk, but runners were left stranded.
The Choctaws used four pitchers in the game. Tyler Swann started, allowing three runs on no hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Taylor Ballard, Kamryn Carlisle and Carter Wells pitched 4.2 innings in relief. Adam Duval earned the win, pitching six scoreless innings with two hits and four strikeouts. Ryan Hunt closed with a scoreless ninth, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Mississippi College returns to action Tuesday, hosting William Carey at 2 p.m.
