No. 15 Vanderbilt routs Mississippi State 88-56 in Starkville
Mississippi State fell to No. 15 Vanderbilt 88-56 at Humphrey Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The Commodores took control early, opening with a 22-4 run and leading by as much as 23 points before halftime. Vanderbilt extended its lead in the second half, reaching a high of 34 points to secure the victory.
Jayden Epps led Mississippi State with 14 points and five rebounds. Sergej Macura contributed eight points and eight rebounds, but the Bulldogs struggled offensively, shooting just 34.5% from the field. Vanderbilt capitalized on turnovers, scoring 28 points off 17 MSU mistakes.
The Bulldogs will travel to Baton Rouge to face LSU on Wednesday, Jan. 28. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
Vanderbilt shot 53.8% from the field, compared to Mississippi State’s 34.5%. The Commodores also led in rebounds, 36-34, and forced 17 turnovers while committing nine.
Leading scorers for Vanderbilt included King Grace and Josh Hubbard, each with eight points. The Bulldogs’ next game aims to improve after the loss, which drops their record to 10-10 overall and 2-5 in SEC play.
