No. 14 Ole Miss Softball Splits Doubleheader at Easton Classic
FULLERTON, Calif. — The No. 14 Ole Miss softball team split its doubleheader at the Easton Classic on Friday at Anderson Family Field. The Rebels defeated Cal State Fullerton 13-1 in five innings before falling 3-2 to Boise State.
In the opening game, pitcher Lilly Whitten made her Rebel debut with a strong performance, striking out three in the first two innings. The Rebels’ offense ignited in the third inning, with Mackenzie Pickens driving in the first run. Kennedy Bunker followed with an RBI single, pushing the lead to 2-0.
Ole Miss continued to extend its lead with a series of hits and aggressive base running. Madi George hit her first collegiate home run, and the team added five more runs in the fifth inning. Cassie Reasner contributed an RBI single and a bases-loaded walk to finalize the 13-1 victory.
The second game was a tight pitching duel. Emilee Boyer pitched well, striking out five through three scoreless innings. The Rebels scored twice in the fifth on a fielder’s choice and an RBI single, but Boise State responded with a three-run homer to take the lead for good.
Ole Miss will face Cal State Fullerton again Saturday at noon, aiming to improve its 2-2 record overall, according to team sources. The Rebels are preparing for the regular season, which continues with multiple games scheduled in the coming weeks.
