No. 13 Jones College tops No. 24 Oxford-Emory in tennis, 8-1
MERIDIAN — No. 13 Jones College beat No. 24 Oxford-Emory (Ga.) 8-1 in men’s tennis Saturday morning at NE Park Tennis Center.
The Bobcats opened the match with three doubles victories. Tom Garrett of Australia and Juan Francisco Pereyra of Argentina won No. 1 doubles, 8-2, over Michael Kurlyandchik and Eshaan Khera. Felipe Morales of Ecuador and Reese Touchet from Madison Central defeated Alex Kassatly and Ruimin Luo, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles. Ryan Roth of Resurrection Catholic and Ridge Jones of Northeast Jones won No. 3 doubles, 8-3, against Benjamin Wu and Ryan Muo.
In singles play, Garrett beat Kurlyandchik, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1. Pereyra defeated Khera, 6-3, 6-3, in No. 2. Morales blanked Kassatly, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3. Jones swept Wu, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5. Luke Westmoreland of Grenada topped Mou, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 6. Touchet fell to Luo, 0-6, 2-6, in No. 4 singles.
The Bobcats, now 2-0, open conference play Friday at Northwest at 1 p.m. Jones is scheduled to face Rust College at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in New Albany.
