No. 13 Jones College beats No. 22 East Central 7-2 in tennis
ELLISVILLE — No. 13 Jones College defeated No. 22 East Central 7-2 Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats swept all three doubles matches. Tom Garrett of Australia and Juan Francisco Pereyra of Argentina defeated Jeronimo Arango and Luis Hernandez 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles match. Felipe Morales of Ecuador and Reese Touchet of Madison Central beat Benjamin Kadid and Braiden Estes 8-4 in the No. 2 doubles, while Ridge Jones of Northeast Jones and Ryan Roth of Resurrection Catholic topped Thomas Sumrall and Seth Gipson 8-2 in No. 3 doubles.
Pereyra won in singles over Kadid 6-2, 6-3. Jones blanked Estes 6-0, 6-0, and Luke Westmoreland of Grenada shut out Cory Smith 6-0, 6-0. Roth defeated Sumrall 6-1, 6-2. Jones’s Tom Garrett lost to Jeronimo Arango 4-6, 4-6, and Morales fell to Hernandez 6-2, 4-6, 8-10 in a close match.
In extra matches, Crews Cockrell of West Jones beat Gipson 8-4. Nicholas Marengo of Forrest County AHS defeated Noah Agent 6-2 and Chris Randle 6-0. Jones College will face No. 25 Hinds at 2 p.m. Thursday.
