No. 11 Mississippi College beats Delta State 6-1 in men’s tennis

Clinton, Miss. — The Delta State University men’s tennis team fell 6–1 on Tuesday afternoon to No. 11 Mississippi College at the MC Tennis Complex.

The Statesmen’s lone point came at No. 3 singles, where Juan Diego Alzate won in three sets. After losing the first set, Alzate recovered to win the second 7–5 and closed out the match with a super tiebreak, 10–5.

Delta State also picked up a doubles victory at No. 3, with Joaquin Jarochevsky and Alzate teaming up for a 6–2 win. Mississippi College secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The Choctaws also claimed straight-set victories at singles Nos. 1, 2, 4, and 6.

At No. 5 singles, Alejandro Bravo pushed his match to a super tiebreak but ultimately lost 4–6, 6–2, 10–3. Top-ranked Mississippi College’s Mattia Ricci, ranked No. 46 nationally, defeated Delta State’s Marti Cerda Castillo 6–2, 6–2.

Delta State’s overall record drops to 6–7, with an 0–4 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The team will travel to Montgomery this weekend to face Auburn University at Montgomery on Friday.
