Nivasananda Wins Medalist Honors as WCU Women’s Golf Takes BMCU Classic Title
Western Carolina University’s women’s golf team secured first place at the BMCU Classic in West Point, Mississippi, after finishing strong in the final round. The Catamounts built a 13-shot lead after two rounds and held off Dalton State in the closing stages.
In the first round, WCU was led by Gracie Bloom, who shot a 77 to tie for fifth place. Gracelyn Cooley finished one shot behind, and Taamtond Nivasananda was 12th at the end of the day. The second round saw Nivasananda make a significant move, firing an even-par 72 to jump into the solo lead by the end of the day. Aiden Haithcock also improved, finishing inside the top 10 with a five-over-par round. Cooley added another six-over-par round to remain among the top competitors.
In the final round, Nivasananda matched her second-round score with another 72 to secure medalist honors with a three-day total of eight-over par. Cooley posted her best score of the tournament, a 73, earning her a third-place finish and All-Tournament Team honors. Bloom finished tied for seventh after an 80 in the final round, while Haithcock concluded the tournament in 13th place.
Final team standings saw Nivasananda post totals of 80, 72, and 72. Cooley finished with scores of 78, 78, and 73. Bloom ended with 77, 81, and 80. Haithcock’s scores were 81, 77, and 82. Other WCU players included Pattatamon Ruangrung and Kenley Archer, who finished 36th and 39th, respectively.
