New Orleans Privateers defeat Alcorn Men’s Tennis 5-0
The University of New Orleans Privateers defeated Alcorn State 5-0 in a nonconference men’s tennis match Thursday at Hall’s Ferry Tennis Court in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The Privateers, now 6-0 this season, claimed the doubles point with wins in two of three matches.
Jacob Rouleau-Mailly and Jerall Yasin won the No. 1 doubles match 6-0 over Alcorn’s Sebastian Griffiths and Tomas Grime. Peter Kieslinger and Marius Gyllerup secured the third doubles point with a 6-1 win against Fabian Juarez and Jorge Prats Navarrete.
In singles play, the Privateers took commanding leads. Gyllerup defeated Jeremiah Jones 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6, while Beltran Fernandez beat Matthew Holl 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2. Carlos Melgosa also earned a straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-0, over Vicent Llobell Buigues at No. 3.
Gonzalo Cotter won at No. 4, edging Tomas Grime 6-2, 7-5. The match was called after Alcorn’s Jorge Navarrete was tied 6-1, 3-3 and Griffiths, a freshman from Neath, Wales, was also unfinished after dropping his first set 6-2 and leading 5-5 in the second. Navarrete’s match was abandoned due to the overall result being decided.
