MUW baseball routs Millsaps 30-6 in non-conference game
Jackson, Miss. — The Millsaps College baseball team was no match for Mississippi University for Women, losing 30-6 in a non-conference game Tuesday at Twenty Field.
Senior EJ Ousley led Millsaps with an RBI, a run scored, a walk, a stolen base, and two hit-by-pitches. Junior Wesley Grant added two RBIs and scored a run. Freshman Hudson Moberly, sophomore Jackson Wall, and Kyle Veal Jr. each drove in one run. Freshman catcher Christian Kretzer contributed an RBI, a double, a walk, and two runs scored.
On the mound, senior Ryan Laiche allowed one hit in 1.1 innings of relief, and freshman Cade Starns tossed a scoreless inning with a strikeout.
The Owls scored early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning and adding four more runs in the third. Millsaps responded with a run in the same inning when Grant singled home Kretzer from second base. MUW added three runs in the fourth, but Millsaps closed the gap to 8-4 with a three-run fifth inning. Grant’s dropped sacrifice fly allowed Layne Cross to score, followed by Kretzer and Moberly driving in runs to cut the lead.
However, the Owls outscored the Majors 22-2 over the final four innings, pulling away for the victory. Millsaps will host Centenary College at 4 p.m. next Tuesday, March 17. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com.
