Mississippi Valley State Sweeps Alabama A&M in Home Opening Series
ITTA BENA, Miss. — Mississippi Valley State University’s baseball team edged Alabama A&M 9-8 Saturday to sweep the Bulldogs in their home opening series at Magnolia Field. The Diamond Devils jumped out early, scoring seven runs over the first two innings, and managed to hold on despite a late rally by Alabama A&M, according to the team.
Mississippi Valley, now 7-17 overall and 3-6 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, improved its series record against Alabama A&M to 50-40 since 2009. The Bulldogs dropped to 7-23 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Tom Early led the offense with a career-best three hits and four RBIs, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Chris Soeder also went 3-for-4, contributing two RBIs. Kendall Brookins reached base four times, scoring three crucial runs. On the mound, Kobe Ladd earned the win by throwing four scoreless outs, while Chris Brown recorded the save with a strikeout.
Coach CJ Bilbrey’s team faces Southeastern Baptist in a non-conference game Tuesday at 5 p.m. The team remains active on social media, including Twitter and Instagram, under @ValleyStateBSB.
