Mississippi Valley State Softball Sets Season Highs in Doubleheader Losses to Alabama A&M

ITTA BENA, Miss. — Mississippi Valley State University’s softball team scored a season-high 12 runs in the first game and added five more in the second during Saturday’s doubleheader against Alabama A&M. Despite their offensive surge, the Diamond Devils lost both games, 20-12 and 14-5, at MVSU Softball Field.

Mississippi Valley State, now 1-19 overall and 0-9 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, faced a 20-12 defeat in six innings in the opener. The Bulldogs improved to 16-16 overall and 3-5 in conference play. Alabama A&M leads the all-time series 65-51 and has won 11 straight games against the Diamond Devils. Their last win was April 5, 2024, with a 6-3 victory.

In the first game, Jamiyah Gary contributed with a three-RBI triple during a six-run first inning. Kelsey Kaluna-Thomas went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Sheridan Kynard scored three times, adding a triple, two RBIs, a walk, and a steal. Michelle Diaz stole two bases and scored twice after singles and a walk.

In the second game, Madison Wesley led Mississippi Valley State with a 2-for-2 effort, scoring twice and getting hit by a pitch. Diaz posted her second multi-hit game of the series, reaching safely three times. Taniya Partee went 2-for-4, while Hailey Akers and Kynard each drove in a run. The team struggled offensively in the loss, but the players showed resilience heading into their next game against Alcorn State on Tuesday in Lorman.
