Mississippi Valley State Softball Loses Doubleheader to Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Pine Bluff, Arkansas — The Mississippi Valley State University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Wednesday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, losing 9-1 and 11-2 in five innings each. The losses leave the Diamond Devils with a 1-29 record overall and 0-15 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff improved to 11-18 overall and 4-6 in conference. The Golden Lions have won six consecutive games against Mississippi Valley State, whose last victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff came on Feb. 24, 2024.
In the first game, Hailey Akers was the only Diamond Devil with an extra-base hit, a double, and she scored a run. Michelle Diaz had singles in two of her three at-bats. Madison Wesley, Kelsey Kaluna-Thomas, and Sheridan Kynard also registered hits. Madison Bruce pitched four innings, striking out four batters.
In the second game, Diaz went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Kaluna-Thomas reached safely three times, including two walks. Kynard drove in the only run of the game, while Taniya Partee hit a double. Devyn Dotson contributed a hit and a walk, and Taylor Fuller drew a walk as well.
