Mississippi Valley State pitchers lead series victory over Alabama A&M
ITTA BENA, Miss. — Mississippi Valley State’s baseball team secured its first series win of 2026 with a 6-2 victory over Alabama A&M on Sunday at Magnolia Field. The Diamond Devils relied on five pitchers to limit the Bulldogs to just two runs, while the offense provided enough support to seal the win, according to team sources.
The win improves Valley’s record to 6-17 overall and 2-6 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Alabama A&M falls to 7-22 and also stands at 2-6 in league play. This victory marks the Diamond Devils’s third straight over the Bulldogs, with their last loss coming on March 22, 2025.
Logan Darnell earned his first save of the season, retiring the final three batters without issuing a walk and striking out one. Starter Lucas Valencia pitched well in four innings, allowing one run and striking out three. Camden Farmer earned the win for the second consecutive game after tossing a scoreless fifth inning.
At the plate, Tanner Aoki led Valley with three hits in four at-bats, including a double and two runs scored. Tom Early and Gabe Huelsing also contributed with two hits each, with Early adding an RBI. Kendall Brookins drove in two runs with groundouts and sacrificed his batting average for the team’s benefit. Cody Leming had a single, two runs scored, and a stolen base in the game, according to team reports.
Valley aims for a series sweep against Alabama A&M on Sunday at 1 p.m. Their last three-game sweep occurred last year against Alcorn State in late March.
