Mississippi Valley State Baseball Falls to Jacksonville State Despite Power Surge
Jacksonville, Ala. — The Mississippi Valley State University baseball team fell 7-4 to Jacksonville State on Wednesday morning at Rudy Abbott Field. The Diamond Devils managed only five hits but totaled 14 bases, including two home runs and three doubles, in the loss.
Most of the offensive action took place in the fourth inning. Eric Williams homered to tie the game, his first as a college athlete. Jaxon Haynes doubled into left-center field, and Jace Jones followed with a double down the left field line. Noah Bufford then hit a two-run homer over the power alley sign, his sixth career home run. Stephen Landaz added a pinch-hit double in the seventh but was left stranded.
On the mound, Ethan Fuller and Clint Lafferty each pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out one without allowing a baserunner. Kobe Ladd threw 1 2/3 innings, gave up an unearned run, and struck out one. Williams drew two walks and homered, while Kendall Brookins walked twice and Johnny Escobalez Jr. drew a walk as well.
The Diamond Devils, now 0-6 on the season, will return home for a three-game weekend at Jackson State University Round Robin Tournament, starting Friday at 2 p.m. against UNC Asheville. Follow the team on social media for updates.
