Mississippi Valley State Athletics Gear Up for Conference Competition
Mississippi Valley State University is hosting a busy week of athletic events as teams compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The week features basketball, softball, tennis, and track and field competitions across the region.
On Monday, the men’s tennis team opens the week with a match against Incarnate Word in Jackson, Mississippi. Later that evening, the men’s basketball team heads to Montgomery, Alabama, for a conference game against Alabama State.
Thursday’s schedule includes a doubleheader at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex in Itta Bena. Women’s basketball plays Prairie View A&M at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. Both games are significant for SWAC standings.
Softball begins its tournament play Friday in Montgomery at the HBCU Celebration Classic, facing Alcorn State at 11:30 a.m. and Grambling State at 4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, women’s tennis plays Grambling State in Greenville, Mississippi.
Saturday marks the start of the SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, with both men’s and women’s teams competing through Sunday. Softball continues tournament play with matches against Miles and Bluefield State in Montgomery.
Back in Itta Bena, women’s and men’s basketball host Texas Southern on Saturday afternoon, closing out a busy weekend of conference games. The week wraps up Sunday with the final day of the indoor track championships and the softball tournament against Lincoln in Montgomery.
