Mississippi Valley State Athletes Set Personal Bests at UAB Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi Valley State University’s track and field team posted multiple personal bests at the UAB Invitational held at Birmingham CrossPlex on Friday. Seven Delta Devils and three Devilettes improved their marks in various events during the meet, the first of two before the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.

Among the Devilettes, Madison Conley and Aniyah Moore each achieved personal records in the long jump, with distances of 4.02 meters and 3.84 meters, respectively. Brooklyn Brunt also set a personal best in the shot put, reaching 7.34 meters. Tori Carter was the only Devilette to improve her time in a running event, finishing the 400 meters in 1:05.81. Aniyah Thomas recorded a season-best in the weight throw with a toss of 13.07 meters.

On the men’s side, Allen Jenkins was the only athlete to finish in the top ten, placing tenth in the long jump with a mark of 6.51 meters. The team saw three athletes improve their 200-meter dash times, led by Malachi Finley at 23.39 seconds, followed by John Eubanks at 23.58 seconds and Justus Snapp at 25.34 seconds. In the 400 meters, Henry Espy clocked 52.33 seconds, and Lanauda Westmoreland posted a personal best of 58.34 seconds.

Timothy Rotich recorded the longest personal best of the day, finishing the mile run in 4:43.66. The Delta Devils and Devilettes will compete again Saturday in the UAB Invitational before preparing for the SWAC Championships scheduled for February 21-22.
