Mississippi Valley State Announces Coaching Change for Men’s Basketball
Mississippi Valley State University Athletics announced Wednesday that George Ivory will not return as head men’s basketball coach next season. The university expressed appreciation for Ivory’s contributions to the program and the institution, according to a statement from Dr. Alecia Shields-Gadson.
Ivory was named the 12th head coach in program history on March 14, 2022. He previously served as head coach at Arkansas-Pine Bluff for 13 seasons and has been an assistant coach at Mississippi Valley State, his alma mater, where he graduated in 1988.
As a player, Ivory was a standout at Mississippi Valley State, setting school records for career assists with 547 and assists per game at 4.8. He also set the school record for three-point percentage in a season at 51.6 percent in 1987. Ivory’s coaching record at MVSU stands at 12-118.
In recognition of his achievements and contributions to Southwestern Athletic Conference basketball, Ivory was inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame. The university has launched a national search for his replacement and will provide updates in the coming weeks.
