Mississippi State’s Josh Hubbard earns All-SEC Third Team for third straight season
Mississippi State guard Josh Hubbard has been selected to the All-SEC Third Team, the conference announced Monday. The honor comes as Hubbard earns his third consecutive all-SEC recognition, a feat only one other State player, Erick Dampier, has achieved during their early college careers, according to the league.
Hubbard is one of four major conference players, including AJ Dybantsa (BYU), Cameron Boozer (Duke), and PJ Haggerty (Kansas State), to record at least 675 points and 100 assists this season. He is also one of two SEC players, alongside Alabama’s Mark Sears, and one of 12 major conference players to have multiple seasons with more than 640 points and 100 assists in the 2000s, a list that includes NBA first-round picks such as Ben Gordon and Jay Williams.
The junior from Madison has scored 1,925 career points, ranking fourth on Mississippi State’s all-time list and fifth among SEC players after their junior seasons. His 1925 points place him 39th in SEC history. Hubbard has also set a program record with 309 career three-pointers, which ranks 10th on the SEC’s all-time list. He scored a career-high 46 points against Auburn in February, setting a program single-game mark with 10 three-pointers, and added 42 points in the regular-season finale against Georgia in March.
Hubbard, along with teammate Jayden Epps, forms one of the SEC’s highest-scoring duos, averaging 35.8 points per game — the highest in State’s history for a pair in over four decades. The pair is one of four SEC duos and 11 major conference pairs to each have over 1,570 points in the season. Hubbard has also earned recognition for his community service, winning the 2026 Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup for leadership and character.
The Madison native has been active in numerous charitable efforts, including founding The Josh Hubbard Showcase, a basketball camp that has awarded about $40,000 in scholarships. He partnered with Make-A-Wish Mississippi on the “Buckets for Wishes” campaign, which has raised over $75,000 and helped grant 11 wishes for children, including a trip to Disney World in March. Hubbard also spent time distributing gifts at Children’s of Mississippi Hospital, where he was treated for Kawasaki disease as a child. Additionally, he collaborated with local organizations to support community food programs and worked with state officials on reducing school absenteeism.
Mississippi State begins SEC Tournament play Wednesday against Auburn. The game is scheduled for approximately 2 p.m. CT and will be televised on the SEC Network and streamed via the ESPN app.
