Mississippi State Women’s Tennis Heads to Texas for SEC Road Matches

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi State women’s tennis team, ranked No. 33 nationally, is set to travel to Texas for its first two SEC road matches of the season. The Bulldogs will face No. 8 Texas A&M in College Station on March 5 at 5 p.m. and then travel to Austin to play No. 14 Texas on March 7 at noon.

Mississippi State enters the trip after concluding a four-match homestand. The team opened with losses to Tennessee but defeated Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 26. The Bulldogs then beat Kentucky 4-1 on Feb. 28 and swept Memphis 4-0 on March 2. The team is currently ranked No. 33 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings.

In doubles, two Bulldog pairings are ranked nationally. Gianna Oboniye and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz are No. 18, while Chiara Di Genova and Kempenaers-Pocz are No. 71. Di Genova and Kempenaers-Pocz contributed key performances during the homestand, including wins against Tennessee and Kentucky that helped secure the doubles point.

Texas A&M enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak, most recently defeating Missouri 4-0 on March 1. The Aggies last faced Mississippi State in 2025, winning 4-0 in College Station.

Texas will host No. 28 Alabama before welcoming the Bulldogs. The Longhorns recently defeated Vanderbilt 5-2 on the road. Mississippi State holds an 0-2 all-time record against Texas, with its last loss coming in 2025 in Starkville.
