Mississippi State Women’s Golf to Wrap Up Regular Season at Charles Schwab Invitational
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State women’s golf is set to compete in its final tournament before postseason play begins. The Bulldogs will participate in the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, starting Monday, March 23.
The team will play a par 70 course for the first time this season, with two rounds scheduled for opening day and the final round on Tuesday. The event features a competitive field of 12 teams, including nine programs ranked in the top 12 nationally. Among them are three of the top five teams in the nation, according to sources.
Avery Weed, ranked fourth nationally among college golfers, will lead the Bulldogs. The Ocean Springs, Mississippi, native finished tied for 14th last year at this event and shot under par in the first two rounds. Ines Belchior, who earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors in February, will also compete. She has an average score of 73.2 and ranks as the fourth-best freshman in program history.
Samantha Whateley will play the third position. She has a season-best average of 73.0 and has finished in the top five twice this year. Moa Stridh, who shot a season-best 5-under in the Mason Rudolph Championship, will be fourth. She has finished par or better in seven rounds, including two in the 60s. Izzy Pellot rounds out the team; she went 3-0 at the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play, Mississippi State’s last tournament.
Freshman Lynn van der Sluijs will compete individually. This marks her fourth tournament of the season. Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
