Mississippi State Women’s Golf Ties for Second at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Mississippi State women’s golf team opened the UCF Challenge with a strong performance, sitting in a tie for second place at 7-under par, according to the tournament’s leaderboard.

The Bulldogs were one of six teams to finish under par Monday. Three players — Ines Belchior, Moa Stridh and Avery Weed — are tied for 11th at 2-under par. Belchior shot a 70 with just one bogey, her third par-or-better round of the season. Stridh carded three birdies on holes 13, 14, and 16 to finish at 70. Weed shot a 70 for her eighth straight round under par, marking her 12th such round this season. She has now shot par or better in 43 career rounds, according to the school.

Samantha Whateley finished the day at 1-under par, her third consecutive under-par round, and is tied for 16th. Izzy Pellot shot a 73, finishing at 1-over par and in 30th place. The Bulldogs will begin round two Tuesday at 8 a.m., paired with seventh-ranked Auburn and 21st-ranked Baylor, who are tied at 8-under par.

Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com. The Bulldogs are competing against teams including Auburn, Baylor, UCF, Florida Gulf Coast, and Penn State, among others, on the leaderboard.

Mississippi State’s team score after the first round stands at 281, 7-under par. The team is tied with Baylor for second place behind Auburn, which leads at 8-under.
