Mississippi State Women’s Golf Finishes Third at Moon Golf Invitational

Melbourne, Fla. — Mississippi State women’s golf finished third at the Moon Golf Invitational, marking their fourth top-three result of the season, according to school officials.

The Bulldogs started the tournament in seventh place at 9-over par after the first day. Over the next two days, they climbed four spots on the leaderboard. A 5-under round by Moa Stridh on Monday helped them move into third place, finishing the round at 3-under, the second-best team score of the day.

In the final round, Mississippi State shot 1-over par, outperforming 13 of the 16 other teams. That effort moved the Bulldogs back into the top three. Ines Belchior and Avery Weed were instrumental in the team’s final placement.

Belchior closed with a 4-under 68, tying for the second-best individual round on day three. This was her third round in the 60s this season, giving her the fourth most rounds in the 60s by any freshman in program history. She jumped 31 spots on the individual leaderboard, earning her third career top-10 finish.

Avery Weed finished with a 2-under 70, marking her 15th par-or-better round of the season. She climbed 22 spots in the final round and now has 46 rounds in her career with par or better.

The Bulldogs will compete next at the Chevron Collegiate starting Feb. 23. The event marks their quick turnaround after the Moon Golf Invitational, which was held Feb. 15-17.

Leading the tournament was Auburn at 7-under par, with Texas A&M at 4-under. Mississippi State finished at 7-over par.

Individual top performers included Belchior and Weed, with Belchior tying for 10th and Weed finishing in a tie for 25th.
