Mississippi State Women’s Golf Completes Opening Day at Chevron Collegiate in Texas
Humble, Texas — Mississippi State women’s golf finished the first day of the Chevron Collegiate in 11th place, 7-over par, after two rounds of play at the Golf Club of Houston. The Bulldogs will compete in the final round Tuesday with hopes of climbing the leaderboard, according to tournament organizers.
Monday’s schedule included an 8 a.m. shotgun start, with the field playing 36 holes. Mississippi State opened with an even-par 72 in the first round but shot 7-over in the second. The team’s total score was 295, +7 for the day.
Samantha Whateley led the Bulldogs, shooting a 1-under 71 in the first round and finishing the day tied for 25th. She recorded her ninth par or better round of the season, with 14 pars and two birdies. Whateley is even par entering Tuesday’s final round.
Ines Belchior also shot even par in both rounds and is tied for 25th alongside Whateley. She scored an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole in her second round, offsetting an early double-bogey and adding two birdies overall.
The Bulldogs will start Tuesday’s final round with an 8 a.m. shotgun from the same course. Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com, according to the tournament officials.
