Mississippi State Track & Field Ends Indoor Season with Strong Performances

Mississippi State track and field concluded its indoor season Saturday, with athletes competing at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina, and the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee, according to a release from assistant director Jhordyn Stallworth.

Head coach Chris Woods called the weekend a “solid” performance across all event groups. He added that the team hit its goals, including placing athletes and relays in national qualifying positions and identifying those ready to compete at the SEC Championships.

The final day produced five entries, a new program record, and 12 personal bests. In Clemson, runners Camryn Merryman, Anje Nel, and Ife Adisa all set personal bests in the 800 meters. Freshman Keayari Lee finished second in the men’s 800 with a time of 1:48.22.

Manie Mevo set a new personal best in the triple jump at 13.18 meters, moving closer to the program record and maintaining her No. 2 spot on the all-time list. Kibren Moore posted a personal best of 20.84 seconds in the 200 meters, ranking as the fourth-fastest in program history.

The Tigers’ 4×400-meter relays also earned top ten finishes and secured spots on the all-time list. The women’s team, featuring Jessicka Woods, Ife Adisa, Camryn Merryman, and De’Kayla Simpson, ran 3:36.79, the second-fastest time ever for the program. The men’s relay, consisting of Malachi Burton, Christion Barker, Keayari Lee, and Sherman Hawkins, finished in 3:05.18, the third-fastest in program history.

In Nashville, Roury McCloyen extended his shot put program record with a throw of 19.66 meters, placing him in the top 10 nationally. Nelly Jemeli concluded her weekend with a victory in the women’s 3,000 meters, posting a time of 9:18.72. This marked her as the program’s freshman record holder and her personal best, while also moving her to second on the all-time list.
