Mississippi State Track and Field Sets Program Record at Crimson Tide Invitational
Tuscaloosa, Ala. — Mississippi State’s track and field team concluded the Crimson Tide Invitational on Friday evening with notable performances, including a new program record in the shot put. The meet, hosted by Alabama, served as a key development opportunity ahead of upcoming high-profile competitions, according to Bulldogs head coach Chris Woods.
Woods praised the effort of veteran runner Tamiia Fuller, who posted personal bests in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash in her first individual races of the season. “This weekend was a great opportunity for extra development before competing in a high-profile meet next weekend,” Woods said. “I was happy to see Tamiia Fuller battle back from injury. Thomas Matlock reaching top five all-time in the shot put gives us confidence moving forward.”
The small field of Bulldogs opened and closed the meet with field events. Juha Narhi set a personal best and extended his program record in the hammer throw with a mark of 65.20 meters, placing him in the top ten in the Southeastern Conference. Roury McCloyen won the shot put in his first outdoor meet of the season. Thomas Matlock threw 17.62 meters, the fifth-farthest in program history.
Mississippi State will continue its outdoor season next weekend, competing at the Wake Forest and Tom Jones Invitational meets. Fans can follow updates on the team through the program’s official website and social media channels, including X, Instagram, and Facebook.
