Mississippi State tops LSU 80-66 for sixth straight win over Tigers
Mississippi State ended a losing streak with an 80-66 victory over LSU on Wednesday night at the Maravich Center. The Bulldogs led from start to finish and have now won six straight games against the Tigers under Coach Chris Jans.
The Bulldogs built a 44-17 lead during the first 17 minutes, shooting 17 of 27 from the field early on. They took a 44-21 advantage into halftime, marking their largest halftime lead this season and the second-largest against an SEC opponent under Jans.
MSU’s 14-point victory was its 19th over an SEC team by double digits under Jans and their fourth-largest road margin of victory against an SEC opponent in his tenure. The team improved to 8-2 this season and is 57-9 over the last four seasons when leading at halftime.
They also hold a 56-21 record under Jans when scoring 70 or more points and are 6-2 this season when holding opponents to fewer than 70 points. Four Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by Josh Hubbard with 15 points. Quincy Ballard added 13, Ja’Borri McGhee 11, and Sergej Macura 10.
Rebounding was a key factor, with MSU dominating LSU 43-24 on the glass. The 19-rebound margin is their highest in SEC play this season. The team also shot 50.9% from the field, hitting 10 of 21 from three-point range, and made 14 of 20 free throws.
Individual performances included Hubbard, who extended his SEC record to 68 consecutive games with at least one three-pointer. McGhee and Jones Jr. also contributed, with Jones Jr. reaching 100 career steals. Several players saw significant minutes and production, helping the Bulldogs secure the win.
MSU’s bench outscored LSU 27-19, with Sergej Macura recording his first career double-double, and Jayden Epps adding nine points. The Bulldogs will next face Missouri, aiming to continue their winning streak.
