Mississippi State Tops Georgia for Key Quad One Win
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State women’s basketball secured its 17th win of the season with an 85-71 victory over Georgia on Thursday night at Humphrey Coliseum.
Georgia led early, holding an 18-11 advantage with three minutes remaining in the first quarter, their largest lead of the game. The Bulldogs of Mississippi State finished the first period on a 10-0 run to take a 21-18 lead into the second quarter. The Bulldogs maintained control despite Georgia narrowing the gap to one point at times.
Destiney McPhaul led Mississippi State with 18 points, six assists, and four steals off the bench. Madison Francis and Kharyssa Richardson each scored 17 points, with Francis adding eight rebounds and four blocks, and Richardson shooting 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Favour Nwaedozi contributed a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Trayanna Crisp added 11 points and hit all three of her three-pointers in the first half.
Mississippi State shot 50% from the field and 50% from three-point range. The Bulldogs also out-rebounded Georgia 36-30 and committed 15 turnovers, fewer than Georgia’s 20.
The team will next face Arkansas on Monday at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network. Mississippi State coach Sam Purcell praised his team’s balanced scoring effort and resilience in a competitive conference environment.
