Mississippi State remains undefeated with 15-8 win over Virginia Tech
ARLINGTON, Texas — The fourth-ranked Mississippi State baseball team extended its winning streak to 11 games Saturday with a 15-8 victory over Virginia Tech at Globe Life Field. The Bulldogs maintained their perfect start behind a potent offensive effort, scoring in six different innings and breaking open the game with a five-run seventh.
Mississippi State’s offense was relentless, drawing 10 walks and going 8-for-16 with runners in scoring position. The Bulldogs scored early, with Aidan Teel singling and moving into scoring position before Reed Stallman delivered an RBI double to give MSU a 1-0 lead in the first inning. In the second, Bryce Chance doubled, Teel singled, and Ace Reese homered to push the lead to 4-0.
The Hokies trimmed the deficit to 4-1 in the third, but Mississippi State responded with a steady offensive attack. A hit-by-pitch from Chance in the fifth inning made it 5-1. The decisive seventh inning saw the Bulldogs load the bases with no outs, scoring five runs to extend their lead to 10-2. Jacob Parker hit a three-run homer in the eighth, sealing the victory.
Teel led the Bulldogs’ offensive assault, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two stolen bases. Reese finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs, and Parker, who came off the bench, drove in three runs. On the mound, Tomas Valincius improved to 3-0, allowing two runs over five and a third innings with seven strikeouts. Relievers Brendan Sweeney and Jack Gleason finished the game, with Gleason striking out three in the ninth.
Virginia Tech scored three runs in both the eighth and ninth innings, including back-to-back-to-back home runs in the final frame. Despite the late rally, the early cushion built by Mississippi State proved sufficient. The Bulldogs will face No. 1 UCLA on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., streaming on FloCollege, with Duke Stone set to start for Mississippi State.
