Mississippi State Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Schenkel Invitational with Historic Round
Statesboro, Georgia — Mississippi State’s men’s golf team posted one of its best rounds in program history with a 16-under 272 in the second round of the Schenkel Invitational on Saturday, moving into third place in the team standings, according to the school.
The Bulldogs’ second-round score ranks as the third-best in program history, behind a 265 at the Mossy Oak Collegiate in 2022-23 and a 270 at the Kapolei Invitational last season, the school said.
Freshman Jackson Skinner led the team with a 7-under 65, his best score to par in college. He had seven birdies with no bogeys, marking his sixth consecutive round of par or better and his third round below 70 this season. Skinner is tied for eighth in the individual standings.
Garrett Endicott shot a 5-under 67 for the second straight round, tying him for second place overall. He overcame an opening bogey to shoot 6-under the rest of the way, finishing with two birdies in his last three holes and an eagle on the par-5 12th.
Ugo Malcor and Drew Wilson each shot 2-under 70. Malcor, starting 1-over through four holes, closed with three birdies on the front and finished even-par on the back nine, tying for 14th place. Wilson made three birdies on the front and two in the final three holes to finish two strokes under par, matching his season best.
Freshman Bryson Hughes carded a 3-under 69, his lowest round as a Bulldog. He made a bogey-free 34 on the front nine and birdied two of his last three holes. Hughes is tied for 14th overall as an individual and will play at 7:28 a.m. CT Sunday from No. 10.
The Bulldogs will begin team play at 8:40 a.m. on the first hole. Live results are available on SCOREBOARD.
After two rounds, Utah leads with a 27-under total of 549, followed by Georgia Southern at 554 and Mississippi State at 557, which is 19 under par. The final round is scheduled for Sunday.
Mississippi State’s top individual results include Endicott at 10-under 134, Skinner at 7-under 137, and Malcor at 4-under 140.
