Mississippi State Golfers Open Spring Season at Thomas Sharkey Collegiate
STATESBORO, Ga. — Four Mississippi State men’s golfers are competing in the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate at Georgia Southern Golf Course, marking the team’s spring season opener.
The tournament is hosted at the par-72, 6,900-yard course and runs over two days, with 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Live results are available on SCOREBOARD, according to the university.
The Bulldogs’ lineup includes Jackson Cook, Trip Duke, Bryson Hughes, and Ben Kelling. Cook, a freshman from West Point, Mississippi, is making his fourth appearance this season. He recently posted his best round at the Cullan Brown Collegiate, helping lead Mississippi State to a team victory.
Trip Duke, a sophomore from Fairhope, Alabama, is participating in his third event of the season. He previously played in the Carmel Cup and the Cullan Brown Collegiate, and tied for 24th in last year’s Thomas Sharkey tournament.
Freshman Bryson Hughes, from Saint John’s, Florida, is competing in his second tournament for the Bulldogs. He previously appeared as an individual at the Cullan Brown Collegiate and was ranked the No. 7 junior golfer in Florida’s Class of 2025.
Ben Kelling, a redshirt freshman from Bad Feilnbach, Germany, recently tied for 44th at the Fallen Oak Collegiate, including a 1-under 71 in the second round. This marks his first appearance at the Thomas Sharkey Collegiate.
The tournament honors Thomas Sharkey, a former Georgia Southern golfer who played from 2009 to 2011. Sharkey was tragically killed in a house fire in Scotland in 2011, and Georgia Southern’s golf program memorializes him with a stone at its practice facility and a dedicated locker.
Play begins Saturday at 7:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Fans can follow live results via SCOREBOARD. For updates on Mississippi State golf, fans are encouraged to follow the team on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram under the handle ‘HailStateMG.’
