Mississippi State Golfers Finish Day One at Thomas Sharkey Collegiate
STATESBORO, Ga. — Mississippi State’s men’s golf team wrapped up the first day of the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate on Saturday, with three players in the top 30. The Bulldogs’ top scorer, Ben Kelling, is tied for 14th after shooting a 1-under 71 in the opening round.
Kelling’s round included three birdies and an eagle, matching the best round of his college career. He finished the day at 4-over par with a total score of 148 after two rounds.
Bryson Hughes and Trip Duke are tied for 25th at 7-over par. Hughes posted a career-best 1-under 71 in his first time through the course, finishing with three birdies after an early stretch at 1-over through 11 holes. Duke shot a 74 in the first round, with four birdies, tying his season-best score.
Jackson Cook rounds out the Bulldogs’ team at 11-over par, tied for 44th after posting an even-par 72 in the second round. Cook’s steady play contributed to his best round of the season.
