Mississippi State, Georgia Set for Top-5 Baseball Series in Starkville
Mississippi State will face Georgia in a three-game Southeastern Conference baseball series starting Thursday at Dudy Noble Field in Starkville. The games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday, with all three streamed on SEC Network+.
MSU (25-4, 7-2 SEC) enters the series on a nine-game winning streak and has won 20 consecutive home games dating back to last season. The Bulldogs are tied for first in the SEC West and look to extend their home winning streak, which ties the third-longest in program history.
Georgia (24-6, 7-2 SEC) presents a significant challenge with one of the nation’s most potent offenses. The Bulldogs lead college baseball with a .649 slugging percentage and 87 home runs. Meanwhile, Mississippi State counters with a balanced attack, hitting .336 as a team with a .443 on-base percentage.
The series opens Thursday night with MSU sophomore left-hander Charlie Foster facing Georgia right-hander Joey Volchko. Foster, who last pitched well at Ole Miss, will be tested by Georgia’s power-hitting lineup. Friday’s game features MSU ace Tomas Valincius, who is 6-0 with a 0.91 ERA, against Georgia’s Dylan Vigue. The Saturday finale will feature MSU right-hander Duke Stone, who is 5-0 with a 3.66 ERA. Georgia has not announced its Saturday starter.
Offensively, Mississippi State relies on Bryce Chance, who is hitting .471 in SEC play without a strikeout. The Bulldogs’ veteran core includes Ace Reese, Noah Sullivan, and Gehrig Frei. Georgia’s offense can change games quickly with one swing, testing MSU’s pitching staff, which boasts a 3.14 ERA and a .205 opponent batting average.
The series carries added importance given both teams are tied for first in the SEC at 7-2. The outcome could provide early separation in a tightly contested league race. Mississippi State and Georgia last met in Starkville in 2024, with the Bulldogs taking two of three games, including a one-run victory in the series finale.
