Mississippi State Finishes Fifth After Opening Round at Schenkel Invitational
Statesboro, Georgia — Mississippi State sits fifth after the first round of the Schenkel Invitational, shooting a 3-under 285, according to school officials. The Bulldogs are five strokes behind tournament leader Georgia Southern.
Garrett Endicott led Mississippi State with a 5-under 67, tying for third place overall. The senior birdied four of six holes after an opening bogey and finished with seven birdies. Endicott’s round marked his second 67 of the season and his lowest score to par this year. He now ranks second all-time at Mississippi State with 34 career rounds in the 60s.
Ugo Malcor shot a 2-under 70, placing 14th. The senior went out in 34 with two birdies and finished his round even-par on the back nine. Malcor has recorded nine rounds of par or better this season, second on the team.
Freshman Jackson Skinner posted an even-par 72, his fifth consecutive round of par or better. He overcame an early 2-over score through 11 holes by birdying three straight holes, ending the day at even par.
Drew Wilson and Ben Kelling finished with rounds of 76 and 78, respectively. Bryson Hughes, competing as an individual, carded a 1-under 71, matching his collegiate best. Hughes is tied for 19th place.

The team is competing against schools such as Georgia Southern, Utah, Yale, and Miami (Ohio), with Georgia Southern leading at 278 (-10).
