Mississippi State beats Jackson State 17-1 with third one-hitter of season
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Sixth-ranked Mississippi State defeated Jackson State 17-1 in a seven-inning game Tuesday at Dudy Noble Field. The Bulldogs’ performance marked their third one-hitter of the season, combining strong pitching with a potent offense, according to team sources.
MSU took an early lead, loading the bases in the first inning before sacrifice flies from Noah Sullivan and Reed Stallman put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0. They extended their lead in the second inning, capitalizing on defensive errors and timely hitting, including a two-run single by Stallman.
The Bulldogs continued their offensive onslaught in the third and fourth innings, with Jacob Parker scoring after doubling, and Bryce Chance finishing the inning with a two-run double to make it 12-0. On the mound, starter Maddox Miller allowed just one hit over two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Parker Rhodes earned the win in relief, pitching two perfect innings. Jackson State scored its only run in the fifth on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice, but MSU’s bullpen shut down any further threats. Tyler Pitzer and Brendan Sweeney closed out the game with two hitless innings.
At the plate, Parker led the Bulldogs with a 3-for-4 performance, including three runs scored and an RBI. Frei added two hits and scored twice, while Drew Wyers drove in three runs with a three-run double. Aidan Teel reached base four times and scored three runs, showcasing MSU’s depth.
MSU is scheduled to host Vanderbilt for its first SEC series at home this weekend, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. on SEC Network. Fans can follow the team through their social media channels or visit www.HailState.com for updates.
