Mississippi State beats Jackson State 17-1 in mid-week baseball game
Jackson State was defeated 17-1 by No. 6 Mississippi State on Tuesday at Dudy Noble Field in Starkville, Mississippi. The Tigers, who are 10-12 overall, faced a tough challenge against the Bulldogs’ potent offense.
Tyree Reed extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the first inning. The Tigers loaded the bases in the fifth inning, and Robert Tate Jr. drove in Hederick Torres with a fielder’s choice. Jackson State’s Joe Williams suffered the loss in his first collegiate start, working 1.1 innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on two hits.
Mississippi State opened the scoring in the first inning, with Noah Sullivan and Bryce Chance driving in runs. The Bulldogs continued to build their lead with a series of hits and errors, including a big four-run fourth inning. They scored five more runs in the fifth, capped by a three-RBI double from Wyers, to secure the victory.
The Tigers are set to return to Southwestern Athletic Conference play this weekend, hosting Prairie View A&M in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. All contests will be broadcast on SWAC TV, according to team officials.
