STARKVILLE — The Mississippi State baseball team has started the 2026 season with significant momentum, posting a 20-4 overall record and a 4-2 mark in Southeastern Conference play, according to team officials. The Bulldogs swept Vanderbilt over the weekend, extending their winning streak at home to 16 games.
The team’s four losses have been narrow, with a combined margin of seven runs. Three of those defeats were by just one run each, against UCLA, Arkansas, and Southern Miss.
State’s dominance at Dudy Noble Field is notable, as they remain undefeated on their home turf this season. The Bulldogs’ fans fill the stadium under the lights, creating one of the most energetic atmospheres in college baseball, according to reports.
Offensively, the Bulldogs have been prolific. They boast a team batting average of .343, the best in the SEC and fifth nationally. They have scored 242 runs, ranking seventh in the nation, with six players batting at least .300.
Outfielder Bryce Chance has been a standout, batting .457 with 32 hits. He emphasized the importance of team chemistry, noting that his position in the batting order helps set up scoring opportunities for teammates like Ace Reese and Noah Sullivan.
Looking ahead, Mississippi State faces No. 11 Southern Miss on Tuesday before traveling to Oxford to face rival No. 18 Ole Miss. Head coach Brian O’Connor’s team aims to maintain its strong start and compete for a postseason run in a highly competitive SEC.
