Mississippi State Alums Celebrate Super Bowl Wins, Highlighting Notable Performances
Charles Cross became the 27th Mississippi State alumnus to win a Super Bowl when the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX on Sunday. Cross, a left tackle, played all 72 offensive snaps and earned a 76.9 grade from Pro Football Focus, the second-highest among linemen in the game. The former first-round pick from Laurel, Mississippi, also recorded the third-best run blocking grade of 76.0.
Cross, who played at MSU from 2019 to 2021, is the 63rd Bulldog to reach the Super Bowl, with MSU players claiming 31 titles overall. Other former Bulldogs who participated in the postseason include Decamerion Richardson, Emmanuel Forbes, and Jeffery Simmons, each contributing on defense for their respective teams.
Quarterback Dak Prescott, MSU’s 2011-15 standout, completed 404 of 600 passes for 4,552 yards with 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions during the season with the Dallas Cowboys. He also added two rushing touchdowns. Prescott’s performance helped keep the Cowboys competitive throughout the season.
Defensive players such as Jeffery Simmons of the Tennessee Titans and Montez Sweat of the Chicago Bears also made notable impacts in the postseason. Simmons recorded 67 tackles and 11 sacks, while Sweat totaled 52 tackles and seven sacks. Multiple other Bulldogs, including Emmanuel Forbes, Willie Gay Jr., and Tyrus Wheat, contributed defensively for their teams.
Many of these players’ seasons concluded with their team seasons, but their achievements underscore Mississippi State’s ongoing contribution to NFL success. The next wave of MSU players is expected to continue making an impact in future seasons.
