Mississippi State Alumni Anderson, Hassan Reach Semifinals at World Indoor Championships
KUJAWY POMORZE, Poland — Mississippi State alumni Navasky Anderson and Abdullahi Hassan advanced to the semifinals of the 800-meter event at the World Indoor Championships, according to World Athletics. Anderson, representing Jamaica, and Hassan, competing for Canada, earned their spots through time qualifications after finishing in 11th and 13th place, respectively.
Anderson competed in the first heat of the preliminaries, finishing third with a time of 1:46.34. Although he did not secure an automatic qualifying spot, his time was fast enough to advance. Hassan ran in the third section, finishing fourth in his heat with a time of 1:46.47. His section was the fastest overall, earning him a spot in the semifinals. This is Hassan’s first time advancing past the preliminaries at a World Championships.
Both athletes will compete in the first section of the semifinals, scheduled to start at 7:08 a.m. Central Time on Tuesday.
