Mississippi College’s Mikayel Avanesyan Named GSC Freshman of the Week

Mississippi College’s Mikayel Avanesyan was named the Gulf South Conference Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week, according to the conference. He posted two singles wins during the week, helping the Choctaws secure a victory.

Avanesyan, a freshman, went 2-0 in singles matches on courts three and four. He defeated Ouachita Baptist’s Moritz Buss in a three-set match (6-4, 3-6, 1-0, 10-6) and beat West Florida’s Mateo Martinez in straight sets (7-6, 6-4), the conference announced.

His performance contributed to Mississippi College’s overall success during the week. Other nominees for the award included Francisco Guimarães of Lee and Filippo Mignani of Montevallo, the conference added.

This marks Avanesyan’s first weekly honor in the GSC for the 2024 season. The award recognizes standout performances among freshmen in the conference’s men’s tennis competition.
