Mississippi College Women Stay Perfect with Win at Lee; Men Fall in Close Match
The Mississippi College women’s tennis team remained undefeated Saturday with a 7-0 victory at Lee in Cleveland, Tennessee. The Lady Choctaws improved to 18-0 overall and 7-0 in Gulf South Conference play, according to school officials.
The No. 6-ranked team dominated from the start, sweeping the doubles point before winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Emily Buchanan opened the singles play with a ranked win at No. 1 singles. Teammates Rocio Martinez, Katharina Weber, Anna Hudson, Ann Cabot Stockett and Mariana Munoz each secured convincing victories to complete the shutout, officials said.
With the win, Mississippi College extended its winning streak to 18 matches and remains perfect this season across all competitions, including a 7-0 conference record.
In the men’s match, No. 13 Mississippi College dropped a 4-3 decision at No. 23 Lee. The Choctaws are now 12-5 overall and 4-3 in Gulf South Conference play, according to officials.
The men’s team earned victories in singles by Matias Ruiz at No. 1, Florian Walcher in a three-set match at No. 3, and Sergio Ramirez Ocana in three sets at No. 5. Despite these efforts, Lee secured the doubles point and clinched the victory with three singles wins, officials said.
Mississippi College’s men’s team now stands at 6-1 at home, 5-3 on the road, and 1-1 at neutral sites this season. Both teams are scheduled to return to action Friday, traveling to Pensacola, Florida, for a conference match against Valdosta State.
