Mississippi College softball splits doubleheader with No. 5 Auburn Montgomery in Montgomery

Montgomery, Ala. — Mississippi College and Auburn Montgomery split their Gulf South Conference softball doubleheader Friday at the AUM Softball Complex. The Choctaws (11-9-1, 4-3 GSC) fell 7-0 in the first game but responded with a win in the second game to even the series at one game apiece.

AUM secured the first game with a strong middle-inning surge. The Warhawks scored two runs in the second inning on a two-run single from Jasmine Sneed. They added two more runs in the third on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single, expanding their lead to 4-0. In the fourth, AUM scored three more runs, including a triple from Chloe Baynes and RBI hits from Rebecca Komers and Kennedy Sevcik, to push the score to 7-0.

Mississippi College finished with six hits but stranded eight runners on base. Ellie Fryar led the team with two hits, including a double, while Madelyn England also had a double. Grace Wallis and Lydia Bethards each recorded hits; Bethards also was hit by a pitch. Camryn Bailey started for the Choctaws, pitching five innings and allowing seven runs, five earned, on 10 hits. She struck out one and walked two. AK Willingham pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

The Choctaws responded in the second game with a victory, keeping the series even heading into Saturday’s finale. The third game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the AUM Softball Complex.
