Mississippi College Men’s and Women’s Track Teams Finish Third at GSC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Mississippi College men’s and women’s track and field teams showcased a strong performance at the Gulf South Conference Indoor Championships, securing nine event titles and setting multiple records. Both teams finished third overall at the meet.

Freshman Jake McMillan led the men’s team, earning both Men’s Freshman Athlete of the Meet and Men’s Overall Athlete of the Meet honors after a record-setting heptathlon performance. McMillan scored 5,058 points, breaking the conference record, and also set a GSC record in the 60-meter hurdles during the event.

In middle-distance events, Gabe Hodson claimed the men’s 800 meters in 1:49.86, setting a new conference record. Freshman Schyler Chambers added to the record totals with a triple jump mark of 14.93 meters (49 feet). The men’s 4×400-meter relay team capped the record-breaking performances by winning in a conference-record time of 3:13.51.

Multiple athletes contributed to the team’s success. Freshman Tristan Jusino-Lansing won the men’s 60-meter hurdles in 7.96 seconds. James Miller dominated the men’s weight throw with a mark of 18.61 meters. Brodie Roberts, another freshman, took the men’s 60 meters title in 6.81 seconds. On the women’s side, freshman Mallory Dial won the high jump with a clearance of 1.63 meters (5 feet, 4 inches). The women’s distance medley relay team also claimed gold in 11:39.65.

Both the men’s and women’s teams finished the meet in third place, demonstrating a balanced mix of experienced veterans and emerging freshmen. The result provides momentum for Mississippi College as they prepare for the outdoor season, according to the school’s release.
