Mississippi College Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Union

Clinton, Mississippi — Mississippi College baseball swept a doubleheader against Union on Saturday, winning the first game 12-1 and the second 10-9. The Choctaws moved to 10-9 overall and 6-3 in the Gulf South Conference, while the Bulldogs fell to 7-10 and 2-7 in league play.

In the opener, MC capitalized on nine walks and four hit batters, scoring five runs in both the second and eighth innings. Four players had two hits each, led by Ty Murphy, who drove in four runs and stole three bases. Alex Johnson, Tyrus Williams, and Nick Slonaker each contributed two hits. Slonaker and JT Thigpen added multiple RBIs. Coby Gollott earned the win, striking out nine batters and allowing one run over seven innings. Kamryn Carlisle closed with a scoreless eighth inning, striking out two.

The Choctaws took control early, scoring five runs in the second inning, highlighted by an RBI groundout from Murphy, a two-RBI single from Slonaker, and a two-RBI double from Thigpen. They extended their lead to 7-0 by the third. Murphy’s three-RBI double in the eighth capped the scoring.

In the second game, MC built a 10-6 lead after a seven-run fifth inning. Thigpen continued his strong performance with a home run and three RBIs for the second consecutive game, while Tyrus Williams added a homer and four RBIs, a season high. Will Langston and Tyler Sanderson contributed offensively, with Langston recording two hits and two runs scored, and Sanderson reaching base twice and scoring twice.

The Bulldogs responded with a late rally, scoring three runs in the sixth to trim the deficit. However, Kamryn Carlisle, who improved to 3-1, pitched 3.2 innings of relief without allowing a run to secure the win for MC. The Choctaws are set to return to action Tuesday against Arkansas-Monticello, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
