Mississippi College baseball splits twinbill with No. 11 Trevecca Nazarene

Mississippi College salvaged a split against No. 11 Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday, March 21, in Nashville. The Choctaws won the second game 9-8 after falling 10-2 in the opener, according to school officials.

In the nightcap, Mississippi College trailed 6-2 after Trevecca’s six-run fourth inning. The Choctaws mounted a comeback with three home runs and five RBIs from Alex Johnson. Will Langston doubled and scored in the fifth, helping the team chip away at the deficit. Tyler Sanderson then hit a two-run homer to tie the game at 6-6.

Mississippi College took the lead in the sixth inning. JT Thigpen scored on Langston’s RBI single, and Johnson hit his second home run of the game, a three-run shot, giving the Choctaws a 9-6 lead. Trevecca responded with runs in the sixth and seventh, but the Choctaw bullpen held firm. Taylor Ballard pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save, striking out one without allowing a base runner.

Langston led the team with three hits, an RBI, and three runs scored. Thigpen added two hits and scored twice. Sanderson’s home run and two RBIs helped secure the victory. Kamryn Carlise earned the win in relief, improving to 5-1.

In the opening game, Trevecca pulled away with home runs and a three-run seventh inning to win 10-2. Mississippi College was limited to three hits, including a double from Ty Murphy. Cade Gadman and Devon Crown contributed the team’s two RBIs. Coby Gollott pitched five innings, striking out 10, but took the loss.

The Choctaws return to action Tuesday, March 24, at Henderson State. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m., according to school officials.
