VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Three Mississippi College student-athletes competed at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Senior Gabe Hodson and senior Lauren Wallace both advanced to the finals, while freshman Schyler Chambers competed in the men’s triple jump final.
Wallace started the meet Friday in the women’s mile. She finished third in her heat with a time of 4:48.31, securing an automatic spot in the final and placing sixth overall in the preliminaries. In Saturday’s final, Wallace clocked 4:48.82 to finish eighth nationally and earn All-America honors, scoring a point for Mississippi College.
Later Friday, Hodson competed in the men’s 800 meters preliminaries, running 1:49.33 to qualify for the final. On Saturday, he finished seventh in the nation with a time of 1:50.08, earning First Team All-America honors and collecting two team points for the Choctaws.
Chambers participated in the men’s triple jump on Saturday, recording a top mark of 14.61 meters (47 feet, 11¼ inches). The freshman placed 15th overall, surpassing his projected finish of 17th and marking a promising start to his NCAA indoor career.
Mississippi College’s athletes concluded their indoor season among the nation’s best, with Wallace and Hodson reaching the finals and Hodson earning All-America honors for the first time.
