Millsaps Women’s Flag Football Secures First Victory With Comeback Win

MILLSAPS COLLEGE — The Millsaps College women’s flag football team secured its first-ever victory Saturday with a 24-18 comeback against Centenary College at Harper Davis Field.

The Majors scored 24 unanswered points in the second half to rally from an 18-0 deficit. Junior Garin Freeman led the way with three touchdowns, including an 11-yard reception that put Millsaps ahead in the fourth quarter. Freshman Ky King contributed with a 44-yard rushing score to start the rally, while junior Tia Anderson threw two touchdown passes, including a 29-yard completion to Freeman.

Centenary took an early lead, scoring on a short rushing play late in the first quarter and converting a crucial fourth down to add another touchdown before halftime. Millsaps finally got on the board just before halftime when King sprinted 44 yards along the sideline, narrowing the score to 12-6.

In the second half, Anderson connected with Freeman in the end zone on Millsaps’ first offensive play. The Majors then tied the game after forcing a short punt, with Cerniglia throwing a touchdown pass. Senior Elyse Warren contributed defensively with an interception, setting up another scoring drive for Millsaps.

Cerniglia, who reentered as quarterback, bought time in the backfield before finding Freeman for an 11-yard touchdown, giving the Majors an 18-12 lead. Freeman made a key catch with a defender close and later scored on an 18-yard run, extending Millsaps’ lead to 24-12.

Centenary responded with a 61-yard rushing touchdown in the final two minutes. Millsaps sealed the win by moving the ball downfield with a 45-yard pass from Anderson to Freeman. The Cyclones’ final play was stopped after a turnover on downs with six seconds remaining.

The Majors will conclude their club season Saturday in Conway, Arkansas, facing Hendrix College at 10 a.m. followed by Southwestern Christian College at 11 a.m. Updates are available on the team’s social media and at gomajors.com.
